Daniel 1:17-21·~1 min

Daniel’s Wisdom

To the four young men God gives knowledge and understanding in every branch of literature and wisdom, while Daniel in particular receives insight into visions and dreams. At the end of the prescribed training, they are presented before Nebuchadnezzar. Their formation has taken place inside Babylon, but their true endowment comes from God rather than the imperial curriculum.

T17o these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding in every kind of literature and wisdom. And Daniel had insight into all kinds of visions and dreams. 18Now at the end of the time specified by the king, the chief official presented them to Nebuchadnezzar.

The king interviews the Judean youths and finds none equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, so they enter his service. In every matter of wisdom and understanding, they prove ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in the kingdom. The chapter closes by noting Daniel's endurance into the first year of Cyrus, hinting that faithful wisdom outlasts the empire that first tried to absorb him.

19And the king spoke with them, and among all the young men he found no one equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. So they entered the king’s service. 20In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king consulted them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his entire kingdom. 21And Daniel remained there until the first year of King Cyrus.
