2 Kings 22:1-2·~1 min

Josiah Reigns in Judah

Josiah begins to reign as a child, yet the chapter measures him not by youth but by fidelity. His rule is introduced as straight and steady before the LORD.

J1osiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem thirty-one years. His mother’s name was Jedidah daughter of Adaiah; she was from Bozkath. 2And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD and walked in all the ways of his father David; he did not turn aside to the right or to the left.

Section summaryThe chapter opens by naming Josiah’s age, family, and long reign in Jerusalem. It then gives the central judgment on his rule: he walks steadily in the way of David, without turning aside.
Role in the chapterThis opening sets Josiah apart at once. Before the temple repairs or the book’s discovery, the chapter frames him as a king marked by unusual faithfulness.
