Jehoram Succeeds Ahaziah

Ahaziah dies in fulfillment of the word spoken by Elijah, and Jehoram succeeds him because Ahaziah has no son. The chapter then closes by referring the rest of his acts to the royal chronicles.

S17o Ahaziah died according to the word of the LORD that Elijah had spoken. And since he had no son, Jehoram succeeded him in the second year of the reign of Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat over Judah. 18As for the rest of the acts of Ahaziah, along with his accomplishments, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?

Section summaryAhaziah dies exactly as Elijah had said, and because he leaves no son, the throne passes to Jehoram. The chapter closes in the usual royal manner, noting that the rest of Ahaziah's acts stand written elsewhere.
Role in the chapterThis brief closing confirms that the LORD's word has governed the whole chapter from first sentence to final outcome. It also marks the dynastic transition that carries the northern kingdom into its next troubled reign.
