The Family of Saul

Saul's line is traced from Ner and Kish through Saul, Jonathan, Micah, and several later descendants down to Azel. The genealogy preserves the royal family's succession beyond the names most familiar from narrative.

N³³er was the father of Kish, Kish was the father of Saul, and Saul was the father of Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinadab, and Esh-baal. ³⁴The son of Jonathan: ³⁵The sons of Micah: ³⁶Ahaz was the father of Jehoaddah, Jehoaddah was the father of Alemeth, Azmaveth, and Zimri, and Zimri was the father of Moza. ³⁷Moza was the father of Binea. Raphah was his son, Eleasah his son, and Azel his son.

Azel's six sons are listed, then Eshek's sons, and finally Ulam's branch is described as numerous and skilled in war. The family record ends with strength, growth, and many descendants.

³⁸Azel had six sons, and these were their names: ³⁹The sons of his brother Eshek: ⁴⁰Ulam was his firstborn, Jeush second, and Eliphelet third. The sons of Ulam were mighty men of valor, archers, and they had many sons and grandsons— 150 in all.
