Remember His covenant forever,
The people are told to remember His covenant forever, the word He commanded for a thousand generations.
It fixes the psalm’s attention on the lasting covenant.
7On that day David first committed to Asaph and his associates this song of thanksgiving to the LORD: 8“Give thanks to the LORD; call upon His name; 9Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; 10Glory in His holy name; 11Seek out the LORD and His strength; 12Remember the wonders He has done, 13O offspring of His servant Israel, 14He is the LORD our God; 15Remember His covenant forever, 16the covenant He made with Abraham, 17He confirmed it to Jacob as a decree, 18‘I will give you the land of Canaan 19When they were few in number, 20they wandered from nation to nation, 21He let no man oppress them; 22‘Do not touch My anointed ones!
