Chapter 117

Extol Him, All You Peoples

This brief psalm summons all nations and peoples to praise the LORD, then gives a single reason vast enough to justify that universal call: his steadfast love is great toward his people and his faithfulness endures forever. In only two verses, the chapter binds covenant mercy to global worship and closes with hallelujah.

Psalm 117 stands at the center of the Hallel as its shortest but widest call. It fits Book V by showing that the LORD's faithfulness to Israel is not a reason for the nations to remain outside, but the very ground on which they too are summoned into praise, since covenant love and universal doxology belong together.
