Jeremiah

Chapter 47

Judgment on the Philistines

Jeremiah 47 announces the coming devastation of Philistia before Pharaoh's strike on Gaza. The LORD depicts the invader as floodwaters surging up from the north, bringing such terror that fathers abandon children, the coastal strongholds collapse, and the Philistines' remaining allies are cut off, while the chapter ends by reminding everyone that the sword at work is the LORD's own appointed weapon.

This chapter continues the nations oracles by showing that Philistia, like Egypt, cannot withstand the LORD's decreed judgment. Its short, concentrated imagery keeps the focus on divine inevitability: panic, mourning, and ruin are not random military outcomes but the execution of the LORD's command.
