Jeremiah

Chapter 4

A Plea to Return and more

Jeremiah 4 begins with a final appeal for inward return, then turns sharply toward the disaster gathering from the north against Judah and Jerusalem. The chapter closes in grief-stricken vision, where the prophet sees the land undone, cities emptied, and daughter Zion writhing under judgment that has not yet reached full destruction.

This chapter carries forward the return language of Jeremiah 3 but shows how urgent it has become. It joins warning and lament in one movement, making clear that Judah's coming collapse is both deserved and devastating, and that the prophet must speak from inside the sorrow of what he announces.
