Isaiah

Chapter 6

Isaiah’s Commission

Isaiah 6 records the prophet's overwhelming vision of the Lord enthroned in holiness, his own collapse under guilt, the cleansing of his lips by fire from the altar, and his commissioning to a ministry that will harden as well as reveal. The chapter ends with devastation for the land but not utter extinction, because even after felling there remains a holy seed like a stump in the earth.

As one of the book's defining chapters, Isaiah 6 reveals that prophetic ministry begins not with human insight but with an encounter with the holy God whose glory fills all things. It binds together holiness, atonement, judgment, mission, and remnant hope, showing that the word Isaiah will speak is inseparable from the God who cleanses him, sends him, and preserves a holy seed through judgment.

8Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying: 9And He replied: 10Make the hearts of this people calloused;

11Then I asked: 12until the LORD has driven men far away 13And though a tenth remains in the land,
