Chapter 56

Salvation for Foreigners and Israel’s Sinful Leaders

Isaiah 56 opens with a call to keep justice and righteousness because the LORD's salvation and righteousness are near, and it immediately widens that hope to include eunuchs and foreigners who join themselves to Him in covenant faithfulness. The chapter then turns sharply, summoning the beasts to devour because Israel's watchmen and shepherds are blind, mute, greedy, and self-indulgent, leaving the community vulnerable under corrupt leadership.

This chapter matters because it shows that restored covenant life is both more inclusive and more morally demanding than superficial religion assumes. Isaiah 56 unites the welcome of outsiders who truly keep covenant with a fierce exposure of leaders who claim to guard God's people while serving only themselves, making the chapter a defining vision of holy inclusion and accountable leadership.
