When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling;
from God’s Anger against Israel, Hosea 13:1-8
What it says

When Ephraim once spoke there was trembling, but by exalting himself through Baal he became guilty and died.

What it is doing

This verse opens the chapter by linking Ephraim's fall directly to idolatrous pride.

In context

1When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling; 2Now they sin more and more 3Therefore they will be like the morning mist, 4Yet I am the LORD your God 5I knew you in the wilderness, 6When they had pasture, 7So like a lion I will pounce on them; 8Like a bear robbed of her cubs I will attack them,
