Chapter 10

Tribute to Xerxes and Mordecai

The book closes by stepping back from the crisis and looking at the stable order that followed it. Xerxes' imperial power is briefly noted, but the final emphasis falls on Mordecai, whose greatness is publicly recorded and whose position serves the good and peace of his people.

After the reversals, decrees, and feast of remembrance, this closing chapter ends Esther with settled political consequence. It shows that the deliverance of the Jews did not vanish when the danger passed, but issued in enduring honor for Mordecai and in a public good that reached the people he represented.
